Purpose To raise money toward the building of a Vietnam War Museum which will be used to teach future generations an accurate perspective.
The Beginning On a hot summer day in July 2005, race co-Director Tony Mathison was training on the Mineral Wells Weatherford Trail preparing for an upcoming 100 mile race. He observed a sign along the trail annoucing the future site of a Vietnam War Museum. Miles later, he was dehydrated and looking for water. A sign pointing to the Clark Gardens was on the trail that day. having no clue that Clark Gardens existed, Mathison accidentally stumbled into a beautiful botanical garden. Two thoughts occurred to him that day. One, the senic view and trail surface was great for a timed race. Two, the future Vietnam War Museum would be a worthy fund raising cause to connect to the race. At that point, the idea for the race started.
